Making the recording and a date for your diaries...

At the start of May we took to ground on the Suffolk coast once more and recorded 'Loom' with the amazing ears (and paper-dry witticisms) of producer Calum Malcolm. It was an emotional and physically knackering process (it's a big piece and it's been two years in the making!) - but most of all a really brilliant experience to get everyone in the same room for four days to make this music together, we even recorded a series of miniatures inspired by the big piece. These shorter pieces make up a condensed narrative and take material from sections of the piece describing the sea, floodplains, ancient burial sights, converging rivers and mountain streams, which we're very excited to share with you in the run up to the release...

The group recorded as we perform - in the round - it meant that we could focus on interaction and making real chamber music across the long curves of the piece. Thanks to recreational ping-pong, estuary wanderings and regular caffeine breaks we think we managed to capture the energy and individual sound of the ensemble. We hope you'll think so too when it's ready! Joe Acheson will also be adding his particular magic touches to the material over the next couple of weeks, and a big thank you to all of you who gave your voices to this initial version of the piece, the human story is integral to the work and we're thrilled to have your words informing this first telling...

We'd like to thank you all for your support so far, we'll let you know when the album is ready and we also hope that you'll be able to join us at the premiere - put the 8th of September 2018 in your diaries and we'll be in touch soon with links to a new exciting festival taking place at the Maltings that we're going to be part of!
